The Georgia Museum of Art has a wide variety of volunteer opportunities for patrons of any age. Our volunteers are important contributors to the success of the museum. They work in the Museum Shop, the library, as docents, during special events and during educational events.
Board of Advisors
The Georgia Museum of Art and its Board of Advisors share the mission of the University of Georgia to support and promote teaching, research and service by working to increase public awareness of the museum and its exhibitions and programs as well as supporting the museum through financial gifts and acquisitions of art.
Friends Board of Directors
The Friends Board of Directors also shares the mission of the University of Georgia. The Friends work to engage communities into the life of the museum.

The Georgia Museum of Art’s student docent corps is a specially trained group of student volunteers who lead conversation-based tours of the museum’s permanent collection and temporary exhibitions. Through these tours, student docents help museum visitors feel welcome and comfortable, enhance their educational experience and facilitate relevant connections with works of art. No experience in education or art is necessary, and all training is provided.
This program requires a 1-year commitment, 12 tours a year and attendance at continuing education meetings on two Monday mornings per month during the fall and spring semesters.
The museum also offers volunteer internships for undergraduate and graduate students and has worked with UGA’s Young Dawgs program to provide internships for high school students.
